RES Handbook Vol 10 Part 4a ii. Diptera - Cyclorrhapha. Calyptrata (1) Section (a) Tachinidae and Calliphoridae (Calliphoridae)

Like the Tachinids the Calliphoridae have a well-developed ptilinal suture, only three antennal segments with a dorsal arista, a longitudinal cleft on dorso-exterior surface of second antennal segment, the spiracles situated in the ventral part of the tergites, and a row of hypopleural setae. The y differ from the Tachinidae by the absence of a convex postscutellum.
