Shropshire Springtail Atlas project launched

The FSC Tomorrow's Biodiversity team is working with Pete Boardman and other Shropshire entomologists, biological recorders and citizen scientists to increase our understanding of the distribution of Springtails (Collembola) in Shropshire. As far as we're aware this Atlas, comprised almost entirely of new records, is the first of its kind in the UK.

You can help! We're using citizen scientists to help collect data for the project. All it takes it a couple of minutes of your time, a springtail sampling pack (we'll post one to you if you email admin@tombio.uk) and a quick visit to your garden or local park. We've even done a short video to help you with the sampling.

You can add various base layers to the map to help get your bearings, then decide at what scale you want to view the records - from 10km squares to 1km squares. For those really keen citizen scientists, this can help focus your sampling to help increase the coverage across the county.

Please help us out - and don't forget to keep an eye on our training page if you'd like to take your interest in springtails further.
